People that know me know that I would back any Marine in any situation. It doesn’t matter if I served with you, if you’re a Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan, or Gulf War veteran, I’ll willingly go to battle with you. I bought a truck from a retired Marine right after boot camp. The old salty dog gave me a hell of a deal on the truck, but the advice he gave me was far more important. He told me that, “Marines take care of Marines.” Since that day I have taken his advice to heart. Anytime I see a guy or gal sporting and EGA tattoo, Marine t-shirt, or hat I make it a point to speak with them. Most Marines are the same way. The Marine Corps is the “greatest damn gun club in the land”, and the fraternity doesn’t end when you discharge or retire, it’s a lifetime commitment. However, there is one Marine that I would not follow into battle. Eddie Lee Routh, the man who killed Chris Kyle, is the one Marine that I would deny alliance. Routh is a scumbag piece of trash that is playing the system and giving veterans that actually suffer with PTSD a bad name. Routh served as an armorer. For those of you that aren’t familiar with the military, an armorer is a person that repairs small arms, and issues arms, within the small confines of an armory. Most, I repeat most, armorers never see “actual” combat. However, I have met several armorers that either volunteered or were volun-told to deploy with an infantry unit to the frontlines. Word on the street is that Routh falls into the first category. Supposedly, Routh did at least one deployment to Iraq sometime between 2007-2009. According to Marines that served with Routh, he was stationed at Camp Fallujah and was sent to Balad sometime during the deployment. Several Marines that served with Routh also claim that the only combat Routh ever saw was an occasional mortar attack. Routh also deployed to Haiti after the massive earthquake in 2010 where he claims that he pulled hundreds of bodies from the ocean. However, other Marines have gone on the record stating that Routh never left the boat in Haiti. We do know that Eddie Lee Routh was convicted of a DUI sometime in 2012, and that he was in and out of mental institutions before the murder of Chris Kyle and his friend Chad Littlefield. Other Marines that served with Routh have claimed that he had a violent side and more than once snapped on his fellow Marines.
The trial involving Eddie Lee Routh’s murder of Chris Kyle and Chad Littlefield is set to begin today with Routh pleading not guilty and claiming insanity. I sure wish Routh could read the below letter before he makes his plea, and consider heavily what his actions have done.
Mr.Routh
You took an oath of office to the United States of America and to the United States Marine Corps to protect our shores against all enemies, foreign and domestic. You stood on the yellow footprints at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego on a mission to become something better, to stand for something more than yourself. You endured 13 weeks of grueling training where you learned things such as Honor, Courage, and Commitment. You sir, have failed to keep up your end of the bargain. You have failed to honor your name, your country, your corps, and the veterans that have served before you and are serving now. You have failed to show courage in the face of adversity. When faced with the challenges of transitioning into a civilian life you chose to lean on alcohol and other transgressions. When you finally did seek companionship you killed the one man that was willing to help. You failed to live up to your commitment to your fellow veterans and the corps. I challenge you to revisit those words: Honor, Courage, Commitment, most importantly the Honor part, where one of the pillars is accountability. I challenge you to make things right and take accountability for your actions. Take accountability for killing an American hero. Take accountability for killing a loving dad, a loving husband, a loving son, and a loving brother. Take accountability for killing a veteran that was only interested in helping you heal. Quit using PTSD as a crutch. We all know that mortar and rocket attacks can rattle your cage. We all know that serving in the Marine Corps leaves you out of touch with civilian life. We all know that it can take months, even years to successfully transition from the Marine Corps way of life into a civilian way of life. However, we both know that you do not suffer from PTSD! I challenge you to bring honor back to your name, veterans suffering from PTSD, and the corps. Take accountability for your actions today and set things right. Allow Mrs.Kyle and her kids to forego this grueling trial and relive the horror of that day over and over. Mr. Routh I challenge you to stand up like you got a pair and plead guilty when the judge asks you today.
